Volunteer Opportunities for the Long Draw Greenback Recovery Project

One-day and multiple day slots available. Due to distance to the project site, one-day volunteers need to be willing to meet at the commute site at 6:30 am and should not expect to return to the commute site until 7pm. Once at destination, additional hiking is involved to get to the actual work site. Wear appropriate shoes and clothes for wilderness hiking.

Single Day Volunteers – Self-provision food and water for the day, comfortable work clothes, sunscreen and rain gear. Project is at approximately 9500’ in elevation and weather can be unpredictable. Waders could be needed at any time but, will be needed on days with active fish tagging scheduled. Car pool available – location TBD

Multi-Day Volunteers – Self provision food for the number of days you will be attending (cold storage and daily water rations available at base camp), work clothes, sunscreen and rain gear. Project is at approximately 9500’ in elevation and weather can be unpredictable. Waders could be needed at any time but, will be needed on days with active fish tagging scheduled. Overnight camping available at the base camp. Self-provision for this camping (tents, sleeping bags, ground pad, etc.). Do not be fooled by the calendar! The nights are quite chilly at this altitude so please provision accordingly. Car pool available – location TBD

Work Dates and Activities:

July 30 – August 3: Electrofish/eDNA/Barrier Map Grand Ditch and Upper Colo; 4–6 volunteers needed

Electrofish/eDNA downstream of Grand Ditch, Upper Colorado River for fish distribution/extent; Identify, map, measure physical barriers & determine security of barrier.

August 6-10: Monitoring Antenna pack in, layout and build; 8 – 12 volunteers needed

Pack Antenna parts into site and begin layout and build; Drill bedrock for bolts; Drive duckbill anchors.

August 27-31: Collect/Tag/ Release Brook Trout; 16 – 20 volunteers needed

Collect and Tag 500-1000 brook trout; Release fish at staged locations upstream and downstream of the waterfall

September 4-7: Electro fish/eDNA Grand Ditch, Baker Gulch,Neversummers; 6 – 8 volunteers needed

Electrofish/eDNA downstream of Grand Ditch, Baker Gulch; Electrofish/eDNA - Upper Baker Gulch fish distribution/extent; eDNA Collection from specific lakes / waterbodies in Never Summer Range.
