Anglers Hear from Local Author

On Wednesday evening, September 19, more than 20 Alpine Anglers and guests gathered at Elkins Distilling Company in Estes Park for the September chapter meeting.

The meeting opened with a brief social period, allowing us a chance to visit, discuss early fall fishing, and enjoy a beverage. The featured presenter for the evening was Les Beery. Les and his wife, Kimball, have been fishing Rocky Mountain National Park for over 50 years.

Les had a nice display of the fishing tackle and flies he’s found successful in RMNP, and his presentation included a detailed slide show highlighting the fishing opportunities in the park—where to go and what to do when you get there.

Les and Kimball are also authors of the “Angler’s Guide to Rocky Mountain National Park”, which was available for purchase at the meeting. They had just published the second edition of this fine book in 2018. The book is a pocket sized, weatherproof/waterproof guide to fishing in the Park, including information on the lakes, streams, flies, and tactics to assist anglers of all levels and abilities catch the trout that inhabit the water in the Park.

We strive to make our meetings fun and informative. If you’re interested maintaining and protecting cold, clean, fishable waters—or even just fishing in them—come join us next time.
