Anglers Have Success on Poudre

On August 1, Alpine Anglers Lynn Williams and fellow TUer Greg Barkley enjoyed a fishing trip up the Poudre Canyon. They spent their time fishing the catch-and-release section between Pingree Park Bridge and Rustic.

The anglers experienced a slow bite during the morning and early afternoon period. Greg focused on a dry-dropper technique, fishing nymphs under a Chubby Chernobyl. Lynn continued to gain experience using a European nymph rig.

About mid to late afternoon, a hatch of mayflies occurred, providing the anglers with a wonderful dry fly opportunity. This was a prolonged hatch, continuing for well over an hour. In all, Greg and Lynn enjoyed a 50 fish day, hooking and releasing both browns and rainbows up to 15 inches.
